RI, S'pore to hold joint expo
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia and Singapore will hold a joint exhibition from Sept. 21 to Sept. 27 at the Singapore International Exhibition and Convention Center, Minister of Industry Tunky Ariwibowo said yesterday.
"This event, which will cost US$1.39 million, is being conducted to commemorate Indonesia's 50th independence anniversary and Singapore's 30th anniversary," Tunky said, adding that both countries will share half of the exhibition's costs.
The showcase, called Joint Exhibition Indonesia-Singapore 1995, will be opened by President Soeharto and Singapore Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong on Sept. 21.
"Indonesia and Singapore will exhibit developments of their cooperation projects, especially in Riau, at the joint exhibition," he said.
The event will also coincide with the World Economic Forum 1995 Europe/East Asia Economic Summit, which will be held from Sept. 21 to Sept. 22, where President Soeharto will deliver his keynote speech.
"Indonesia can take advantage of the forum, which will be attended by 500 business people worldwide," Tunky said.
During the exhibition, Indonesia will be supported by 57 companies, representing businesses in, among others, electronics, banking, furniture, aircraft industry, mining, cement, tourism, telecommunication, construction and electricity.
Singapore will present three main sectors: transportation and telecommunication, electronics and services.(31)
