RI, S'pore resume extradition talks

JAKARTA: The governments of Indonesia and Singapore resumed on Monday talks on an extradition treaty deemed as crucial to help curb rampant corruption here.

Antara quoted Singaporean diplomats as saying authorities from the two countries held their third meeting in Singapore and exchanged drafts of the extradition treaty.

The drafts contain the list of crimes to be included in the planned extradition treaty.

Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Hassan Wirayuda said earlier his government proposed 20 types of transnational crimes to be included in the agreement, including drug trafficking, money laundering and terrorism.

Indonesia has long sought an extradition treaty with Singapore to allow it to catch corrupt officials and businesspeople who stash their money in the city-state, a regional financial safe haven. --Antara
