RI, S.Korea sign MOU on mining

The Directorate General of Geology and Mineral Resources has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with South Korea's information center Korean Resources (KORES) to cooperate in developing Indonesia's energy and mineral resources.

The directorate general said in a statement on Tuesday that under the agreement, KORES, which specializes in providing information on resources, would spread information on Indonesia's energy and mineral potentials, particularly coal resources, among South Korean investors.

The agreement was important in light of the fact that the interest of investors in Indonesia's mineral and coal resources had been decreasing over the past four years, he said.

The MOU was signed during the directorate's director general Wimpy S. Tjetjep's visit to Korea from June 5 to 8.

During the visit, the director general also signed a MOU with the Korean Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources in Deajeon to cooperate in making an inventory of Indonesian mineral resources -- JP
