RI sends two teams to Bridge Olympics
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia has sent two teams to compete in the Bridge Olympic Games in Maastricht, the Netherlands, from Aug. 26 to Sept. 9.
Spokesman for the Indonesian Contract Bridge Association (GABSI), Ananta Widjaja, named the men's team members as Hengky Lasut and Eddy Manoppo; Denny Sacul and Franky Karwur; and Santje Paneleweng and Robert Tobing. They will compete in the open team event.
The women's team members are Lusje Bojoh and Elita Syofiah; Fera Damayanti and Lany Liem; and Irne Korengkeng and Riantini.
He said that GABSI had not set any target for the athletes who take part in the open team event despite Indonesia's success in earning a bronze medal in the same event in Rhodes Island, Greece, in 1996.
Ananta also said the women's team would find it difficult to earn any medals with the absence of top bridge players Joice Maudolong Tueje, Sartje Suoth Pontoh and Elvita Kuhu Lasut.
Ananta told Antara that a college team comprising Hidayatullah/Mohamad Reza, Yohanes/Mohamad Hidayatulah and Freddy Y. Hutahayan/Elwindra from the University of Indonesia will represent Indonesia in the World Inter-Collegiate Bridge Championships, to be at the same place. (ivy)
