RI sends team for world canoe polo

JAKARTA (JP): Seven Indonesian canoers will take part in the World Canoe Polo Championships in Adelaide, Australia from Oct. 9 to Oct. 13.

M. Ashidiq, Indonesian coach and team manager, said yesterday his athletes were aiming for third place in their debut.

Ashidiq said that although the team had only a month of preparation, it was ready for the championships. Defending Asian champion Indonesia will face strong opposition from Japan, China Taipei and Hong Kong.

Both defending world champion France and host Australia look to be the most promising teams for a shot at winning the championships. (yan)
