RI sends 21 athletes to storm S'pore Open

JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Amateur Athletics Association is sending 15 male and six female athletes to the Singapore Open on Sept. 27 and Sept. 28.

Coach Pieter Noya said: "The championship is the final preparation for the track and field team before the 19th SEA Games here next month."

Noya said the event would give the national athletes, who have been training in Houston, Texas, time to adapt to the climate and competition.

The Singapore Open will be the final selection test for the Indonesian athletes.

The final national squad for the SEA Games, particularly the 100 meters, 200m and 400m sprinters, will be announced after the Open.

Antara reported that only two sprinters from each participating country could compete in each event.

Indonesia will field Agustinus Ngamel (100, 200, 4x100m), Yanes Raubaba (100, 200, 4x100m), Erwin Heru Susanto (100, 200, 4x100m), Subakir (100, 200, 4x100m), Sukari (100, 200, 4x400m). Ricky Yusuf (100, 200m), Novian Suhendra (400, 4x400m), Hariyanto Suiba (400, 4x400m), Alfius Kantohe (400, 4x400m) in the men's sprint side.

The association will also field Irene Joseph (women's 100, 200, 4x100m), Meivia Ratnasari (women's 100, 200, 4x100m), Nitje Durant (women's 100, 200, 4x100m), Olivia Yacob (women's 100, 200, 4x100m), Sih Emawati (women's 100, 200 4x100m), Rabaiya (100, 4x100m, long jump), Rudy Wicaksono (110m men's hurdles), Rusli (110m men's hurdles), Kristian Kaize (women's javelin throw), Sukraj Singh (men's discuss), Ponsianus Kahol (men's javelin throw) and Freddy Mahuse (men's javelin throw).
