RI, RP to meet over border
JAKARTA: Indonesia and the Philippines are slated to hold border talks next months to resolve a number of outstanding issues, especially the maritime border between the two countries.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Hassan Wirayuda said on Wednesday that the talks would be held in Manila.
"There are impending maritime border issues between us and the Philippines, especially near the small island of Mianggas, that will be discussed in February," Hassan said.
The island is located in the Sulawesi Sea near the maritime border between Indonesia's Sulawesi and the Philippines' Mindanao.
"There is no question about the ownership of the island (Mianggas), as it was declared part of Indonesia in 1928. Now, we are going to settle the maritime border," he added.--JP
