RI receives Japan's grant

JAKARTA (JP): The Japanese government agreed on Wednesday to provide Indonesia with a 2.87 billion yen (US$24 million) grant.

A press release from the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta said the notes for the grant were signed on Thursday by Japanese Ambassador Takao Kawakami and Johan S. Syahperi, director general for foreign economic relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Some 1.18 billion yen of the aid will be used to rehabilitate two units at the Gresik steam and gas power facility, the release said.

The Japanese government promised Indonesia a total of 20 billion yen in aid in July last year during the Consultative Group on Indonesia meeting in Paris.

The statement said some 17.74 billion yen of the pledged aid had been disbursed. (rei)
