RI ousts Holland in Bridge Olympics
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian bridge team was ranked 16th in the world after beating the Dutch 133-116 on Sunday in the Bridge Olympics in Albuquerque, New Mexico, U.S.A.
On the first 16 boards, Indonesia was 23 International Match Points (IMP) behind Holland which garnered 40 IMP. But on the second 16 boards, Indonesia managed to notch one IMP ahead of the Dutch team which tallied 38 IMP.
On the third 16 boards, the Indonesian team of Hengky Lasut/ Eddy Manopo and Denny Sakul/ Franky Karwur left the Dutch in their wake by scoring 46-20. On the fourth and final 16 boards, Indonesia finally ousted Holland from the Olympics after tallying 31-18.
"Indonesia's victory over Holland took members of the Bridge Olympics by surprise. Subsequently, the world's strongest teams began to turn their eyes towards Indonesia," Roy Tirtaji, a chairman of the Indonesian Bridge Association, was quoted as saying by Antara. (arf)
