RI organic fertilizers to Malaysia

Fertilizer company PT Rajawali Phara Jaya shipped on Monday the first export of 300 tons of organic fertilizers under the brand of Rajawali Fertilizer to neighboring Malaysia.

Company president Denny Pondaag, said overseas market was more promising to sell organic fertilizers due to farmers' improved awareness about the need for a clean environment.

"Local plantation companies are only thinking about their profit and investment and are rarely concerned about the environment," he said.

The shipment was inaugurated by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture Sjarifuddin Karama (breaking a ceramic pot).

Sjarifuddin hoped that in the future the company could introduce the use of organic fertilizers to local plantation companies.

He said the country's soil condition was becoming increasingly degraded because of the intensifying trend of using inorganic fertilizers among plantation companies. (gis)
