RI offers scholarships

JAKARTA (JP): The chief of the education and training
department of the Ministry of Tourism, Post and
Telecommunications, I Gede Ardika, said here yesterday that the
government is offering 100 scholarships for education in the
tourism, post and telecommunications fields.

He said the program, prepared by the ministry, is in
conjunction with Indonesia's leadership of the Non-Aligned
Movement (NAM) and offered to its members.

He said so far, the ministry has provided four scholarships to
two students from Tanzania and two others from Sudan.

The two Tanzanians took short courses in tourism, while the
Sudanese students are in the process of pursuing
telecommunications technology at the Bandung Institute of
Technology in West Java for two years.

The fifth participant, Amne Aboud Abdull Rasoull from
Tanzania, will start her telecommunications technology studies in
Bandung in September.

According to Ardika, the scholarships, valued at US$2,640 per
semester for each person, are being promoted through Indonesian
embassies in several countries. (icn)
