RI offers scholarships

JAKARTA (JP): The chief of the education and training department of the Ministry of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications, I Gede Ardika, said here yesterday that the government is offering 100 scholarships for education in the tourism, post and telecommunications fields.

He said the program, prepared by the ministry, is in conjunction with Indonesia's leadership of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and offered to its members.

He said so far, the ministry has provided four scholarships to two students from Tanzania and two others from Sudan.

The two Tanzanians took short courses in tourism, while the Sudanese students are in the process of pursuing telecommunications technology at the Bandung Institute of Technology in West Java for two years.

The fifth participant, Amne Aboud Abdull Rasoull from Tanzania, will start her telecommunications technology studies in Bandung in September.

According to Ardika, the scholarships, valued at US$2,640 per semester for each person, are being promoted through Indonesian embassies in several countries. (icn)
