RI, M'sia to boost tourist business

YOGYAKARTA: The direct flight from Yogyakarta to Kuala Lumpur, launched recently, has moved the tourism-related business community of the two cities to seek possible joint business cooperation.

The direct flight's target market, similarly, has also been changed from migrant workers previously to business and tourism passengers.

In a bid to improve relations between the business communities of the two countries, some 30 top executives of travel agent companies from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, visited Yogyakarta last week and attended a dinner reception held at Yogyakarta Plaza Hotel.

According to hotel public relations officer Y. Risnasari, the tour, sponsored by national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, lasted for four days and explored tourism potential.

"The visit was a good chance for us to promote the tourism potential of Yogyakarta as a destination for Malaysian tourists. It is they who can assure people that Indonesia in general and Yogyakarta in particular is a safe, comfortable place to visit," Risnasari said.

The visit was also expected to improve communications between the hotels here with visiting travel agent companies. -- JP
