RI-Malaysia bridge project

JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Public Works Radinal Moochtar said yesterday that it was technically feasible to build a bridge connecting the western part of Indonesia to Malaysia.

"The idea was discussed at the sub-regional economic cooperation of Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand growth triangle," Radinal told a hearing with Commission V for public works, transportation and communications at the House of Representatives.

He said the bridge was suggested in the Asian highway development plan, which was still being studied.

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad raised the idea of a bridge to link the Malacca strait and Indonesia with President Soeharto in Turkey early last week. (das)
