RI maid detained in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: An Indonesian maid was arrested in Kemaman in the eastern Malaysian state of Terengganu, some 300 kilometers from here on Monday in connection with the alleged abuse of a marine police officer's four-year-old son.
A Kemaman district police spokesman said the 35-year-old inspector had installed a hidden camera in the living room of his house at about 8 a.m. last Sunday after suspecting his son was being abused by the maid.
The inspector and his teacher wife, after returning home at 8 p.m., viewed the camera's recording and found that the maid had hit the boy on the head with a broom and a plastic cup.
The inspector lodged a report at Kemaman district police station at 9:30 p.m. the same day, the spokesman said.
Terengganu Police chief SAC I Othman Talib confirmed the arrest.
He said the maid, in her 30s, was being held under section 324 of the Penal Code. -- Antara
