RI maid charged with murder
JAKARTA: Another Indonesian maid in Singapore is to stand trial for murder.
Police arrested the maid, Barokah, 27, for killing her Singaporean employer, Wee Keng Wah, 75, in her apartment on Chai Chee Road last Wednesday following an argument.
Migrant CARE, an Indonesian non-governmental organization providing advocacy for migrant workers, demanded on Monday that the Indonesian government provide lawyers for Barokah and that Singaporean authorities investigate the case thoroughly.
"In previous cases, Indonesian maids committed murder after a series of abuse by their employers," Migrant CARE said.
Barokah will appear at the lower court on Thursday for her first hearing. She could face execution if proven guilty under Singaporean law. -- JP
