RI lifters bag six Asian medals

JAKARTA: Indonesia's three men's and three women's lifters
brought home six bronze medals from the Asian Junior
Weightlifting Championships at Khongkaen City, Thailand.

The event was held from April 22 to April 28 and featured 174
athletes from 25 countries.

Irwan Sugiarto won one bronze in the men's 62-kilogram
division, Beti Feriyani secured two bronzes in the women's 58-
kilogram division and Ferry Lestari took three bronzes in the
women's 69-kilogram division.

Looking ahead to the 2003 Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam,
team manager Ahmad Irwan Siregar said his squad's performance was
satisfying given the strong field, which included tough
competition from the Chinese and North and South Korean lifters.

"(The lifters on the squad) have the potential to improve and
become strong lifters who are ready to go to Vietnam when
needed," Irwan told reporters after his arrival here on Monday.
