RI karatekas win bronze

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia won a bronze medal in the third World Ladies Cup karate tournament in the women's kata team event in Tokyo on Saturday.

Coach Christine Taroreh said in a telephone interview that the team -- consisting of Fitria Mega Sjaukat, Merani Mega Sjaukat and Endang Trimurti Wulandari -- had performed their best. China and Spain won the gold and silver respectively.

"The trio have shown that they are still the best among Southeast Asian countries. Malaysia and the Philippines are our toughest rivals in the 20th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Brunei Darussalam next month," she said.

Indonesia is sending 15 karatekas to the championships, which end on Sunday.(yan)
