RI joins Marseilles karate meet

JAKARTA: Eight Indonesian karate athletes will take part in
the Junior World Karate-Do Championships in Marseilles, France,
from Oct. 19 to Oct. 26.

The eight athletes are Meisya, Donny Dharmawan, Dede
Supriyatna, Ismail Aswar, Syarif, Charles Napitupulu, Mario
Tobing and Benri Sitorus.

Gilbert Arthur Pesik, an official of the Indonesian Karate-Do
Federation (FORKI), said on Tuesday that the athletes'
participation was aimed at providing more competitive experience
abroad so the regeneration of the national squad can proceed.

"FORKI is not setting any targets for them. We just want to
see them do their best," he said, adding that the federation
would also send four officials to participate in a refereeing
workshop during the event.--JP
