RI goat meat in demand

JAKARTA (JP): Traders in Malaysia and Singapore have expressed strong interest in importing goat and lamb meat from Indonesia, Director General for Farming Sofjan Sudradjat told Antara on Tuesday.

"The two countries are potential markets and they are interested in receiving whatever quantity we export," he said.

He added that prices for both types of meat in the countries was about US$7.30 per kilogram, or more than $2 higher than domestic prices.

In discussing the Ministry of Agriculture's efforts to fulfill domestic demand for meat by 2005, he said the ministry was conducting artificial insemination and cross-breeding programs to improve the quality of livestock, including goats and lambs, for sale at reasonable prices. (06)
