RI goalies come under criticism

SEMARANG (JP): An Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) instructor criticized national goalkeepers for separating themselves from the team during soccer matches.

"We can see from the role they play on the field compared to their Asian rivals; they act as if they are not part of the team on the field," Yopie Lepel said on Saturday.

"That's why PSSI sent two goalie coaches, Arjuna Rinaldi and Boyke Adam, to an international coaching clinic in Kuala Lumpur as a part of our efforts to establish national coaching standards," he said.

Yopie was speaking at the opening of a three-day pilot clinic for goalie coaches. The clinic, which ends on Monday, was attended by 40 former goalkeepers. (har)
