RI gets $86.9m for road projects

JAKARTA: Indonesia's road to modernization and economic development will hopefully be smoother thanks to a commitment of US$86.9 million by the World Bank last week.

The loan will be used to develop infrastructure to relieve traffic congestion in major cities in Indonesia, the bank's office in Jakarta said yesterday.

The money will be used to finance the strategic urban roads infrastructure project that will improve road networks for smoother traffic flow in major urban centers.

To alleviate traffic, the government plans to build new roads and bypasses, improve traffic management and widen roads. The loan will finance 52 percent of the total project cost of $167.6 million. (pan)
