RI fighters trained in Korea
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian tae kwon doins, being groomed for the Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, are undergoing an overseas stint in South Korea to improve their technical skills.
"The 16 fighters, who left on Monday, will compete in the June 27 to June 30 Korean Open in Chanchoen which will also be participated in by other countries' fighters," Indonesian Tae Kwon Do Association (TI) secretary-general Adrian Lumowa said over the weekend.
"Countries such as SEA Games host Malaysia and Vietnam will also compete in the event. They have been preparing their tae kwon doins in Korea also.
"Apart from the Korea Open, the national fighters will also compete in the tae kwon do festival in Chungchon from July 2 to July 7. The festival will feature all aspects of tae kwon do."
TI announced eight tae kwon doins and four substitutes in each men's and women's divisions for the Sept. 8 to Sept. 17 Games. In contrast to the core team members, the substitutes are being trained at Ragunan Sports School, South Jakarta.
Adrian said TI would evaluate the athletes in July after returning from Korea. (nvn)
