'RI embassy to Myanmar tapped'

JAKARTA: Legislator Djoko Susilo said on Sunday that the Indonesian embassy in Yangoon, Myanmar, was bugged by Myanmar's military junta.

Djoko, of House Commission I, said an investigation conducted in June showed that the junta had tapped Indonesian diplomats' conversations.

He said a joint investigation by the National Intelligence Agency (BIN), the State Code Institution and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had found a bugging device in the wall of the ambassador's meeting room in Yangoon.

Djoko said Indonesia should review diplomatic relations with Myanmar, as well as lower the level of diplomatic representation in that country and summon the ambassador home for consultation. -- JP
