RI eludes U.S. dumping charge

JAKARTA (JP): The United States Embassy in Jakarta announced on Wednesday that the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) has rejected a proposal to impose antidumping duties on imports of expandable polystyrene resins from Indonesia.

It said in a statement that the commissioners determined that the evidence of injury to U.S. industries did not suffice to allow investigations to continue.

As a result, the USITC and Commerce Department of the United States will close investigations and no antidumping duties will be imposed, the embassy said.

U.S. imports of polystyrene beads from Indonesia amounted to $3.6 million in 1999, or about 1.1 percent of the U.S. market. (tnt)
