RI, China sign population accord

BANGKOK: Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of China here on Monday to cooperate in the field of population and reproductive health/family planning.

The MoU was signed by the chairwoman of Indonesia's National Family Planning Board, Yaumil Agoes Achir, and China's minister of the State Family Planning Commission (SFPC), Zhang Weiqing.

The signing of the MoU was witnessed by Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Jusuf Kalla, the Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand Sutria Tubagu, and China's vice minister of the SFPC, Wang Guoqiang.

Yaumil said the agreement included an exchange of high-level visits, an exchange of reproductive health/family planning experts, scientific research and the implementation of reproductive health/family planning programs.

The MoU will remain in force for four years, after which it will be automatically extended one year at a time. --JP
