RI auto sales up in August

JAKARTA (JP): Sales of four-wheel vehicles on the domestic market increased to 29,365 units in August from 28,452 units in July, according to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo).

Astra International maintained its leading role in the market, contributing almost half of the national sales with 13,510 units, down slightly from its July sales of 13,728 units.

Astra's dominant marque Toyota led the sales in the commercial vehicle class with 7,403 units, up from 6,703 units in July.

The data also shows that KIA's sedan, Timor, booked the highest growth in the passenger car group last month when its sales jumped to 1,093 units from only 651 units in July.

The combined domestic sales of four-wheel vehicles, excluding the growingly popular imported completely-built ups, was 184,479 units as of end of August.

Gaikindo expects the national car sales to reach a total of 300,000 units this year. (cst)
