RI aikido group holds first 'gasshuku'

JAKARTA: The fledgling Indonesian Aikido Institute (IAI) held at the weekend a one-day gasshuku, or mass training, in Ciloto, Bogor, involving 61 members from 11 dojos, according to a statement released on Sunday.

It was the first gasshuku by the IAI, which was founded only three months ago. Saturday's session was rounded off on Sunday with a ranking test.

IAI chairman Ganamurti said he expected the session not only to foster ties among members, but also to imbue them with a sense of sportsmanship.

"We hope more people will take up aikido as part of their lifestyle," Ganamurti said.

Aikido has been practiced in Indonesia since 30 years ago. -- JP
