Retired colonel might be jailed

TANGERANG: A prosecutor asked the Tangerang District Court on Monday to sentence a retired Army colonel to one year in prison on Monday for falsifying land and house ownership documents.

Prosecutor Puji Raharjo said Col. (ret.) H. Margono Rejowikromo, 50, a resident of Kampung Melayu Barat, Bukit Duri subdistrict of Tebet, South Jakarta, falsified the signature of his second wife, Sofia Alamsyah, also 50, a resident of Asri Lama housing complex in Cipandu village, in the Cileduk district of Tangerang.

"The defendant's efforts resulted in the National Land Agency issuing a certificate on Feb. 20, 2001 stating that Sofia's ownership was transferred to the defendant," Puji said.

"The defendant later sold the plot and the building to another party, causing Sofia to lose Rp 300 million (US$29,412)."

The prosecutor also asked the court to order the land agency to cancel the certificate.

Presiding judge Joseph Ziraluo adjourned the hearing until next Monday. -- JP
