Restricted area needs reviewing

JAKARTA (JP): The City Land Transportation and Traffic Control Agency (DLLAJ) submitted on Tuesday a proposal to the city administration that recommended the revocation of the capital's restricted traffic zone called three-in-one, especially on Saturdays and other holidays.

The draft, signed by DLLAJ head Buyung Atang, was submitted to the head of the city administration's legal bureau while copies were also sent to Governor Sutyoso and the directorate general for land and transportation of the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication, Antara reported.

The traffic regulation was issued in Gubernatorial Decree No. 864/1994 on traffic-restricted areas, which only allows cars with at least three passengers to travel on certain main roads in Jakarta as an alternative means to solve traffic congestion.

DLLAJ expected the governor to approve the new proposal through another gubernatorial decree on the grounds that it would improve services for road users. The proposal was made in connection with a Nov. 3, 1999 meeting at DLLAJ office on the evaluation of traffic-controlled areas .(01)
