Residents to sue over certificates

JAKARTA (JP): Over 110 residents of the Gading Griya Lestari housing complex in Cilincing, North Jakarta will sue PT Safiera Amalia and PT Jakarta Industrial Estate Pulo since the two firms have failed to issue land certificates to the residents on time.

Yunus Yamani, representative of the residents, told The Jakarta Post that all 800 residents in the complex had paid for their houses in cash several months ago. However, only 150 of them had received their land certificates.

The Gading Griya Lestari housing complex was constructed by PT Safiera Amalia in cooperation with city-owned PT Jakarta Industrial Estate Pulo.

Yamani said that three months ago executives of PT Safiera and the residents signed an agreement stating that the company would pay compensation for any delay in the processing of the certificates. "So far, the firm does nothing," he said.

The residents have complained to State Minister of Public Housing Akbar Tanjung, the City Council and North Jakarta Mayor Suprawito. "But there has been no satisfactory response either," Yamani said.

A source said that part of the housing complex stands on land which is in dispute, so that certificates cannot be issued.

The residents' lawyer, Sangap Sidauruk, said that he has tried to discuss the case with executives of PT Safiera Amalia, but no deal has been reached.

He disclosed that he has completed the paperwork for the residents' lawsuit against the two companies and plans to file it at the North Jakarta District Court next week.

Executives of PT Safiera Amalia and PT Jakarta Industrial Estate Pulo could not be reached for comment. (29)
