Residents raid gambling house

YOGYAKARTA: Eight hundred residents of Notoprajan and Suronatan subdistricts here raided a gambling house Sunday and caught 19 alleged gamblers.

Spearheaded by the United Development Party's local paramilitary task force, the raid was launched at 3 a.m. at the Ndalem Notoprajan housing complex near the Sultan's palace.

"All alleged gamblers have been handed over to the police, along with all evidence. We want the police to proceed with the case as soon as possible," Syarief Hidayat, who commanded the task force, said.

Area residents have publicly said they would not tolerate gambling in their neighborhoods and threatened to "raid" alleged gambling houses. (23)
