Residents protest over flood
TANGERANG: About 150 residents from the Periuk Damai Sejahtera II housing complex in Periuk District, Tangerang, staged a rally in front of the complex developer's office on Friday, demanding the company take immediate steps to cope with floods still inundating their homes.
"We want the flood water to recede soon and the developer is responsible for coping with the flood water," Rosidi, 59, a resident living in Block D of the housing complex, which is part of the Mutiara Pluit housing estate, said.
A representative of the developer's office refused to meet the protesters.
The residents vowed to return on Saturday.
Heavy rains which struck Tangerang on Thursday night flooded 176 houses in the complex, with the water reaching 1.5 meters. The water had not receded by Friday morning.
The flood waters were still also inundating other residential complexes in Pasar Kemis, Jatiuwung and Periuk districts, with the water reaching 1.25 meters.
Among the flooded complexes were Vila Tangerang Regensi in Pasar Kemis district; Total Persada, Alam Jaya, Purati and Taman Cibodas in Jatiuwung district; Vila Mutiara Pluit, Gebang and Periuk Jaya in Periuk district.--JP
