Residents protest delinquent chief

BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: Dozens of villagers from Tri Karya Mulya in North Lampung have lodged a protest with Governor Poedjono Pranyoto over their chief's lawbreaking.

Identified only as SH, the village chief has allegedly intimidated residents, confiscated livestock that residents received through a presidential aid program, and expropriated one resident's house.

The Antara news agency reported Monday that SH also took a tractor the village received from the World Food Program representative, and made a power generator out of it for his own house's electricity.

The villagers have also reportedly asked the governor for protection from the chief who recently threatened to "drink the blood" of a resident.

Poedjono has ordered the North Lampung regent to examine the case. (swe)
