Residents must clean environment

Now that the wet season is fast approaching, it is high time
for the Jakarta administration to take action to prevent
flooding.

The Jakarta administration and its relevant agencies must
ensure that the water can flow well through gutters and
waterways. They must also conduct dredging in lakes, rivers and
ponds so that these places can properly take in rain water. (Many
rivers in Jakarta are filled with garbage.)

The Jakarta administration did the right thing when it removed
illegal houses from riverbanks in its effort to prevent flooding.

Another thing that the Jakarta administration must quickly do
is to carry out a mass civil works campaign, in which all
residents are mobilized to clean up their environment.
