Residents mob robbers to death

JAKARTA (JP): Three men allegedly caught in the act of robbing a home in South Bekasi were mobbed and killed by local residents early Saturday morning, an officer said on Saturday.

City police spokesman Lt. Col. Zainuri Lubis identified the dead men as Ojen Sihotang, 20, Hotbin Siagian, 20, and Lori A. Tugotulup, 22.

"They broke into the home of 40-year-old Ramian, who lives on Jl. Lt. Arsyad of Kayu Ringin Jaya, South Bekasi," Zainuri told reporters at city police headquarters.

"The robbers thought that Ramian was asleep. He was not. He got up and started screaming. When local residents heard his screams, they chased the robbers, before mobbing them to death."

"The robbers were trying to run off with Ramian's 29-inch Toshiba TV set."

Meanwhile, police officers are looking for 20 men who stole a motorcycle from a 36-year-old man on Friday night.

A police report reveals that the victim, identified as Hidayat, was driving his Suzuki Tornado on Jl. Raya Kali Malang, near the Kayu Ringin Jaya area.

"According to the victim, while he was driving, a man suddenly appeared in front of his motorcycle and banged into it. As a result, Hidayat fell," Zainuri said.

"When he fell, other men arrived and started beating Hidayat, while more came and took away Hidayat's motorcycle. They even took away his license." (ylt)
