Residents demand land certificates

PADANG, West Sumatra: Hundreds of residents of Aur Kuning area set roadblocks on Thursday at Bukittinggi bypass road, paralyzing the traffic leading to the bus terminal and neighboring Agam regency.

The people were demanding the city administration issue 55 certificates for their new land, received in exchange for property given up for road construction in 1995.

"We have been very patient so far, although we should have received the certificates five years ago," one of the protesters, Martunus Lelo, said.

Bukittinggi Mayor Djufri promised to meet the demand soon and asked the people to end their action. (28/lup)
