Residents demand electricity

SOUTH SOLOK, West Sumatra: Residents in South Solok regency in West Sumatra demanded on Thursday that the government provide them with electricity.

Residents from the remote villages of Jorong Paninjuan Bukit Sikumpa and Jorong Ampalu, have never been connected to the state power grid.

Efrianto, a resident in Jorong Ampalu, complained that children in the villages could not study properly because of the absence of proper lighting.

Syarifuddin, a resident in Jorong Paninjauan Bukit Sikumpa, also complained that the residents could not get news and entertainment programs on television, a privilege enjoyed by other residents in the regency.

There are over 1,000 people in the two villages. -- Antara
