Residents complain about JCC project

JAKARTA: Residents of Kebon Melati subdistrict in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Monday complained about the dust generated by the construction of the Jakarta City Center (JCC) project.

The residents, who held a demonstration on a road near the project, alleged that the construction of the JCC had also caused their wells to run dry, produced cracks in the walls of their houses and was unbearably noisy.

They also demanded more compensation for the adverse impacts of the construction work on their quality of life.

Some 700 families in the subdistrict reportedly received Rp 500,000 in compensation from the developer last year.

"The compensation is nowhere near enough to make up for the impact of the project on our daily lives," said Ibu Suyoso, one of the residents.

Other residents complained that the dust had caused chest irritations. --JP
