Residents asked to keep the flag flying

JAKARTA: The city administration calls upon Jakarta residents to hoist the nation's red-and-white flag from Aug. 14 until Aug. 18 in commemoration of the 57th anniversary of Indonesian Independence.

The flag should be hoisted from 6 a.m until 6 p.m., Governor Sutiyoso said in a written statement on Thursday.

Residents are also urged to decorate their own neighborhood with red-and-white banners and decorative flags.

The President will deliver a speech before the plenary meeting of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Aug. 16 followed by flag-hoisting ceremony on Aug. 17 at Merdeka Palace. --JP
