Renovation of school buildings
JAKARTA (JP): The West Jakarta mayoralty renovated 56 public elementary school buildings in the 1993/94 fiscal year, which ended last March, an official said.
Djoko Prawoto, head of the housing construction office, said that each building was renovated at a cost of between Rp 40 million (US$18,180) and Rp 140 million.
"The renovation did not affect the school teaching activities as students joined classes in nearby schools," he said.
The reconstruction of two state elementary school buildings -- SDN 06 and 07 -- in the Kemanggisan subdistrict, has also been completed.
They accommodate 316 and 144 elementary students, respectively, he said.
Djoko said that officers of his office are still calculating the cost for the total renovation of another damaged school -- SDN 03 -- in Angke subdistrict.
"The office has also sent a proposal to renovate a number of other school buildings during the current 1994/95 fiscal year," he said, but did not give details. (hhr)
