Religious leaders set up forum
MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: A group of religious leaders in Mataram municipality established on Saturday a joint forum of local religious communities.
The establishment ceremony on Saturday was witnessed by dozens of religious leaders in the city and Mataram mayor Ruslan. The forum, in its dedication read by the chairman of the Mataram branch of the Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI), Wildan, declared that they would maintain peace in the city during the election.
Ruslan said the forum was expected to prevent possible clashes between followers of different religions during the election.
Forum participants included the MUI, the Council of Buddhist Communities, the Indonesian Hindu Religious Council and the Indonesian Communion of Churches. -- Antara
