Relatives run amok at morgue

JAKARTA (JP): Dozens of relatives of a murder victim ran amok at the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital morgue in Central Jakarta on Monday.

Forensic officer Mun'im Idris said the relatives were angry because they believe an autopsy of the victim, Fernando Helio Parada, 30, had been performed without their permission.

Among the relatives involved in the incident was Hercules, a reputed hoodlum in the city.

Mun'im did acknowledge some incorrect information was given to the relatives by a morgue official regarding what was to be done with the body.

Activities at the morgue, which performs between two and five autopsies per day, were disrupted.

As of 7:30 p.m., the morgue was still under tight security. The Central Jakarta Police has sent two truckloads of police officers to the morgue in response to the incident.

Fernando helped coordinate parking at the Bengkel Night Park in South Jakarta. Police said he was stabbed to death in the early hours of Monday during a brawl.

Kebayoran Baru Police chief of detectives First. Insp. Rony Samtana said a suspect in Fernando's murder, identified as Edy Tilome, was arrested at his residence at Kemayoran Apartments in Central Jakarta. (07)
