Regional soil study workshop opened

BOGOR, West Java: RTM Sutamihardja, special assistant to the
minister of environment, yesterday opened a regional training
workshop on the impacts of global soil changes.

Twenty-eight scientists from seven Southeast Asian countries
are participating in the 10-day event aimed at understanding the
close connection of land-use and ecological changes and green
house gas emissions.

The participants will present a report on the status of lands
in their respective countries and develop proposals on the
further study of future changes. (anr)
