Regents quizzed for alleged graft

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: Kupang Police questioned on Thursday Kupang Regent Ibrahim Agustinus Medah and former Kupang's deputy secretary for development Christian Nehemia Dillak for the alleged embezzlement of Rp 828.4 million (US$92,044).

The two officials were questioned for four hours in connection with the purchase of two fishing boats valued at Rp 828.4 million.

Christian Nehemia Dillak is currently regent of Rote Ndao regency.

The police also questioned other officials on Thursday, namely Gideon Rata, the head of the Kupang budget subdivision, Emmanuel Pelokila, the head of the Kupang finance department, Elisa Manafe, the project treasurer, and Nikodemus Leka, the head of the Kupang maritime and fishery department. Nikodemus is the currently the sole suspect in the case.

The graft case cost the state Rp 236 million. -- JP
