Regent reported for alleged graft
JAMBI, Jambi: Several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) reported on Wednesday Batanghari Regent Abdul Fattah to the provincial prosecutor's office for alleged graft.
Doni, a spokesman for the NGOs, said the report concerned alleged irregularities in the 2002 regency budget. The regent allegedly allocated Rp 850 million from the 2002 budget for his personal operational allowance, which the NGOs said violated a government regulation that put the ceiling on such personal allowances at Rp 200 million.
Among the NGOs that signed the complaint against the regent are the Citra Bina Mandiri and Prakarsa Madani foundations.
Despite the allegations, Abdul said he would seek reelection next year. -- JP
