Regent proceeds with PhD research

BOGOR, West Java: M. Syaukani, the regent of Kutai Kertanegara in East Kalimantan, successfully defended on Saturday his doctoral research proposal at the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB), thus allowing him to move on to the next stage of his doctoral research.

The Regent, who is also the chairman of the Regental Governments Association, proposed a study of capacity building in the formulation of conservation policy in the Soeharto Hill's National Park in East Kalimantan province.

Prof. Hadi S. Alikodra, one of the lecturers who scrutinized the research proposal, promised that the institute would strictly adhere to quality standards in the regent's case. Many say that this is not the case with many other institutes in the country when dealing with important personages.

If the IPB neglected quality standards, it would damage the institute's reputation, said Alikodra. -- Antara
