Regent Hotel to reopen Monday

JAKARTA: The Four Seasons Regent Hotel is set to reopen on Monday; it was forced to close when a flood engulfed the basement of the hotel and a major part of the city in February, last year.

The hotel has undergone major renovations to ensure that it is protected from floods but the structural and design elements remain the same, the hotel management said in a statement on Friday.

The hotel will reopen in two stages. On Monday guest rooms, suites, Club and Club floors will open with the Lobby Lounge, Seasons Cafe, the Steak House, the Bar, the Cellar and the Library for wine and the Deli, fully operating. Later the reopening of the Lai Ching Chinese restaurant and the completion of the Ballroom will mark the end of renovations.

Using rubber boats, hundreds of the hotel's guests, including expatriates and their families, were evacuated out of the hotel which was surrounded by the massive flood last year. The flood water engulfed the hotel basement and its surrounding for days.-- JP
