Regency court for Tangerang sought

TANGERANG: Tangerang Government Watch director Tony Wismantoro suggested on Saturday that Tangerang regency get its own prosecutor's office and court.

"This is also in line with the separation of the Tangerang City Police into regency and municipal police offices," he told The Jakarta Post on Saturday.

Many residents of Tangerang regency have complained of the long distances they have to travel to reach the prosecutor's office and the court, both located in Tangerang municipality, Tony said.

The National Police will build the regency police headquarters in Tigaraksa, on a plot of land provided by Tangerang Regent Ismet Iskandar.

The regency police office will oversee 26 districts, while the municipal police will serve the capital of Tangerang and 13 districts. -- JP

Govt plans to ease Cileduk traffic

TANGERANG: To cope with the daily traffic jams at the Cileduk intersection connecting Tangerang municipality and Jakarta, the municipal administration plans to build an overpass or underpass in the district next year.

"We expect the feasibility study to be completed in November," the head of the Tangerang Development Planning Body (Bappeda), Undang Herman, said on Saturday.

He said the feasibility study was being carried out by experts from the prestigious Bandung Institute of Technology.

The traffic congestion at Cileduk is mainly caused by street vendors and minivans that have taken over the street. --JP

C. Jakarta to check apartment tenants

JAKARTA: The Central Jakarta population and civil registration agency plans to check on the residency status of tenants at several apartments in the area.

Agency official Rosyik Muhammad told the city's official news portal Beritajakarta.com that his team would focus on foreigners live in the Executive Menteng and Senayan apartments.

"We have information that most of the tenants at the apartments are foreigners who do not have valid identity cards or other legal documents," he said.

He added that the operation would take place within the next two weeks. -- JP
