Red light district reopens

PALU, Central Sulawesi: A red light district, closed down by the authorities nearly three years ago, has quietly reopened for business.

Antara reported on Saturday that there were at least 50 prostitutes working in brothels that openly offered sexual services in the Tondo subdistrict.

Several residents have complained about the presence of brothels in the area, which began to open again in April.

The municipality closed down the brothels in Tondo in October 1998, displacing about 800 prostitutes. (04)
