BANDUNG: Bandung Institute of Technology Rector Wiranto Aris
Munandar and a student contesting his expulsion have failed to
reach an out-of-court settlement.

The student, Budhi Sumarso, 23, is determined to continue the
legal battle in the local state administrative court, said his
lawyer, Adnan Buyung Nasution, yesterday.

Budhi Sumarso was expelled from the institute earlier this
year after a freshman died during initiation ceremonies held by a
committee headed by Budhi.

Judge Satri Rusad suggested on Oct. 1 that the two disputing
parties should seek an out-of-court settlement before the court
proceeds with their case.

In yesterday's session, Buyung questioned the legality of a
rectorial decree on the formation of the institute's disciplinary
council which oversaw the initiation week. (17)
